Call for Expression of Interest: FAO Global Tick Laboratory Networks Training on Acaricide

FAO Global Tick Laboratory Networks Training on Acaricide Resistance Tick Bioassays (Africa Region)

The FAO Global Tick Laboratory Network is pleased to invite expressions of interest from laboratories in Africa for:

  1. Integration into the FAO Global Tick Laboratory Network, and
  2. Participation in a practical training session on acaricide resistance in vitro tick bioassays

This initiative aims to strengthen laboratory capacity, harmonize methodologies, and support improved tick and acaricide resistance management across the region.

Training Details

  • Topic: Practical training on acaricide resistance in vitro bioassays
  • Dates:
    • 14 – 18 September 2026 in Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda (in English)
    • 28th September – 02 October 2026 in CIRDES, Bobo Dioulasso, Burkina Faso (in French)

Eligibility Criteria

For Integration into the FAO Global Tick Laboratory Network, interested laboratories must:

  • Be currently conducting in vitro acaricide resistance bioassays
  • Provide supporting evidence of their activities (e.g. laboratory reports, scientific publications, or other relevant documentatio

For Participation in the Training

  • One participant per laboratory (preferably the technician or scientist directly performing the bioassays).
  • Mandatory completion of the FAO e-learning course on acaricide resistance (Acaricide resistance in vitro tick bioassays | FAO VLCs) documented by the certificate.
  • Participants who have previously attended this training are not eligible

Selection Priorities

Priority will be given to:

  • Laboratories that have not previously participated in this training.
  • Laboratories that provide direct services to farmers (i.e. diagnostic and service-oriented laboratories), rather than purely research-focused institutions
