1. Oral Presentations
Presentation
- Duration: Each oral presentation is allocated 12 minutes, followed by 3 minutes for questions and discussion.
- Slide content: Please keep in mind that the audience will typically read the content on a slide before listening to the presenter. Therefore:
- Keep the text on each slide to the essential information only.
- Use a clear, simple, and uncluttered presentation style.
- Avoid reading the text on the slides verbatim. Instead, use the slides to support and complement your verbal presentation.
- Please practise your presentation thoroughly in advance to ensure that it is well-paced and fits comfortably within the allocated 12-minute presentation time.
Content
- Number of slides: We recommend limiting the total number of slides to ensure that the presentation can be delivered effectively within the allocated time.
- As a general guide for a 12-minute presentation, approximately 17 slides containing text are recommended. Presenters should adjust the number of slides according to the complexity and nature of their content.
- Use of images: Where photographs, illustrations, or other images are used, we recommend including no more than two images per slide to ensure good visibility and clarity.
- Figures and captions: Ensure that all figures, graphs, charts, and other visual elements are clearly visible and easy to understand. Captions and labels should be sufficiently large and legible when viewed from a distance.
- Animations and videos: Please avoid the use of animations and videos unless they are essential to conveying the key message of the presentation.
- Videos: If a video is essential to your presentation, the presenter is responsible for ensuring that it is properly embedded, set up, and tested to play correctly. Please notify the Organising Committee at info@waavpafrica.org in advance if your presentation includes a video.
- References and permissions: Appropriate references should be provided for all sources used. Evidence of consent or permission for the use of images, photographs, tables, or other copyrighted material should be available upon request.
Text and Layout
- Please include a key message slide at the beginning or end of the presentation. This should highlight the main relevance of your project and the practical application of your findings.
- Recommendations:
- Plain white background and black text for presentations
- Font sizes: Title 40, Subtitle 30, Text 28.
- A large font is recommended so all text is legible.
- Use the same font throughout the presentation.
- Maximum of 7 lines of text per slide. Prefer bullet lists with short sentences.
- Use italics or bold to emphasize certain words or phrases.
- Remember to check the spelling before sending the final version.
2. Poster Presentations
- Poster printing: Poster presenters are responsible for printing their own posters and bringing them to the workshop.
- Poster size: The maximum permitted poster size is A0 (approximately 84 cm × 119 cm).
- Printing specifications: Posters must be printed on 180 gsm paper.
- Poster material: Posters must not be laminated or printed on alternative materials such as fabric, vinyl, plastic, or other rigid substrates.
- Display materials: WAAVP-AN will provide poster boards and the materials required to securely attach posters for display.
- Poster display period: Posters will remain on display throughout the workshop.
- Poster presentation session: During the allocated poster session indicated in the programme, each presenter is expected to remain at their poster and provide a brief overview to interested participants, as well as respond to questions and facilitate discussion.
